ACC Athletics

On Wednesday 27 March the annual ACC Athletics carnival was held at the Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. The weather was hot but the track was even hotter with two of our athletes breaking long held records early. The first was Jordan Ziebell (12S1, Savio) of the open age group breaking the 110m Hurdle record and followed by Peter Sio (8F, Collinson) breaking the Under 13s 200m record. The boys looked strong all day across all events with some outstanding performances from athletes such as Jason Tran (12M1, Moroney), Peter Sio (8F, Collinson) and Steven Angeloudas (8D, Savio). The field event participants proved strong again with many first and second places in the Shot-put and Discus. At the halfway point of the day, Salesian College was in second position, closely behind St Bernard’s. Towards the end of the day we grew closer and closer to overtaking, however with two unfortunate disqualifications from the relays, St Bernard’s grew out of reach. Salesian College finished the day in second position in Division One; our best ever finish, claiming the runner up flag along with the record flags presented to our 2 outstanding record breakers.

A huge thanks to all coaches who took time out of their days to help our athletes, especially Craig Radley and Carl Egan for helping organising the team and trainings, and to Steve Beckham and his volunteers for making the day run smoothly. Hopefully next year we come away with the championship.
