On Thursday 5 March the VCE Media students had the opportunity to attend the opening night of Top Screen at ACMI, Federation Square. Top Screen, organised by the VCAA Season of Excellence, selects the top Year 12 media films from each VCE year. The night consisted of viewing a variety of short films, animations and music videos before hearing from some of the successful student filmmakers in a ‘Q and A’ session. Students were able to ask questions and find out about the film making process and how to stay organised and focussed in what can be a very demanding year.
Below is a reflection by Larry Genovese, Unit 1 Media student:
Along with showcasing exceptional films and a ‘meet and greet’ with some of the successful recipients for best short films in Victoria, Top Screen provided us with the initiative and desire to create an invigorating short film like the ones presented to us. The overwhelming remarkable films were of extraordinary complexity, and brilliantly crafted. We hope that this year one of our students will assemble a film that will one day appear in the VCAA’s Top Screen.
