Language other than English (LOTE) Week at Salesian College

LOTE Week at Salesian College is a marvellous week, providing an opportunity to all students and staff to participate in and observe a number of different activities. It is also a celebration of the Italian language and culture, and promotes the benefits of learning a language other than English.


LOTE Week may include the following activities:

Italian Card Games

Senior Italian Students mentor junior students in the art of playing Briscola and Scopa, two well known Italian card games.

Poetry Competition

Year 7 and 8 Italian Students have the opportunity to participate in a Salesian College Poetry Competition with prizes being awarded to the top three students in each year level.

Theatrical Performance

Year 8 Students are rewarded with a comedic and educational Theatrical Performance related to Italian fine dining and cuisine. Presented by La Comica Productions.

Interactive Language Workshops outside the College

Year 10 Italian students participated in interactive language workshops at Killester College thanks to the Italian teachers from both schools. This activity was immensely successful with students showing interest in continuing the activity in the future.

Film Study

Students at various year levels usually complete a film study during LOTE week relating to some aspect of Italian culture.

 Gelati Van

All students and staff have the opportunity to purchase an authentic Italian Gelati from the Gelati Van
