Animal Farm

Our College Production this year is Peter Hall’s 1982 adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

The students, including six girls from Killester College Springvale, have all worked exceedingly hard to lift the script off the page. The play differs slightly from Orwell’s original as modern cultivating techniques, battery farming etc, are explicitly mentioned. This shift in focus makes an animal revolution a much darker prospect, lessens the comparison to the Russian Revolution and broadens the themes of power and corruption considerably. The changes in agriculture since Orwell’s original was published in 1945 have affected all of us animals significantly.

Tickets can be pre-purchased from the College, either in person or by ringing 9807 2644 at a cost of $15 full and $12 concession.

Performances are at Clayton Community Centre Theatre, 9-15 Cooke Street, Clayton 3168.
