Animals Encounters: A Year 10 Core Science Incursion

In Year 10 Core Science, students study Evolution. The topic involves students considering how plants and animals have adapted to different environments and the theory of Natural Selection.

To give them a hands-on learning experience, “Reptile Encounters” was invited to Salesian College on 22 and 24 April to conduct animal shows for each class of the Semester 1 Core Science students. Unlike a visit to the zoo where you see animals behind protective glass, students had the opportunity to learn about and hold various native animals. They had a fantastic experience learning about the evolutionary history, unique adaptations and behaviours of native marsupials, pythons, birds, lizards and even a baby crocodile!

As you can tell by the photos they had a very memorable experience!
