Davey Egan Cup
The Salesian senior soccer team played their annual fixture against Mazenod College on Wednesday 17th April for the much sought after Davey Egan Cup. Salesian College started the game well and would have gone a goal up within the first 5 minutes if not for the desperate goal line clearance from a Mazenod defender.
Mazenod eventually worked their way into the game with chances few and far between for the next 20 minutes. Salesian finally got the breakthrough when Chris Pascal-Therios calmly slotted his shot past the advancing Mazenod goalkeeper just before halftime.
The second half started in a flurry of goals as Mazenod immediately drew level only for Jordan Ziebell to restore the Salesian lead moments later. This was followed by another 2 Mazenod goals either side of Simon Chea’s goal for Salesian. With the match up for grabs at 3-3 Mazenod were reduced to 10 men and Salesian capatilised with Michal Ollivetti scoring what turned out to be the match winner with 10 minutes remaining. Salesian have now won the last 4 cup games against Mazenod.
