End of Term 1 2014 Assembly

On the last day of term the College gathered to recognise the many individual and team achievements that have been reached during first term. College captain, Michael Olivetti and the vice-captains Robert D’Leema and Aidan Davitt were the hosts for the assembly.

The assembly was begun by Mario Noyar, the College’s Liturgy captain, who led the assembled students and staff in prayer as we looked ahead towards Easter and the joyous celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

Mr Schillaci announced the Captain of Debating, Grant Napitupulu, and provided a brief report of the debating activities in first term and those that boys can be involved in during the rest of the year. Mrs Knight then assisted Mr Brennan in the presentation of badges to the College Liturgy captain, Mario Noyar, and the Social Justice captain Dohwon Kim followed by Dohwon providing details of the significant number of Social Justice Activities and total money for each House raised over Term 1. The cumulative effort raised was a record for the College and indicates the efforts of the leaders and the generosity of heart of Salesian boys for those in greatest need.

Joel Nixon, the College Academic ambassador, reminded all boys of the significant learning opportunities that are being provided to assist the learning of boys, including tutoring classes and assistance. Joel also exhorted boys to make the most of every learning opportunity to maximise their results in his speech.

Mr Egan took the opportunity of the gathering to announce the Term 2 sports captains, soccer – Michael Olivetti and football – Simon Marchese and presented special badges to recognise those boys who have represented the College through their National and State representative sides in a great variety of sports. Mr Egan also gave a report on the College’s strong performances in the ACC swimming and Athletics carnivals held recently. The College Sports Ambassador, Andre Rogers, also give a short report focused upon the lunchtime soccer house competition and other opportunities for boys to involve themselves in sporting activities at Salesian College.

The College Cultural Ambassador, George Lapatas, spoke about the activities in Arts and Music this term with a focus upon the music camp which was such a success and the upcoming ACC concert which will showcase the talents of many of our boys. The assembly was then provided a musical interlude by Joshua Wilmann, Gabriel Lubin, Shehan Elpitiya Badalge and Anjana Deegodaliyanage who performed the song “Just the way you are” by Bruno Mars to great acclaim.
