Faith and Mission
It is with great pleasure that I report on the Sacramental Program for 2016. Ms Sarah Rapson, Mr Noel McGarry, Ms Melina Barcellona and I have been working with the 25 boys who have requested to part of the program. This year:
- Three boys will be baptised
Baptism incorporates us into Christ and forms us into God’s people. Through Baptism, the Holy Spirit frees us from sin and join us with Christ. We become part of Christ’s Body, the Church.
- Nine boys will receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation
Reconciliation allows our young people to reflect on how everyday conflicts are in fact opportunities to live by following the example of Jesus. The sacrament of reconciliation provides us will opportunities to restore our relationships with others in particular, with Jesus.
- Ten boys will receive First Holy Communion
The Eucharist, is the ‘Sacrament of Sacraments,’ the source and summit of Christian life. In this sacrament, Christ is really present as the bread of life and the cup of eternal salvation nourish us on our pilgrim journey. By sharing in the body and blood, we are united more deeply with Christ and become his presence in the world.
- 25 boys will celebrate receiving the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation
Confirmation makes us more completely the image of the Lord and fills us with the Holy Spirit, so that we may bear witness to him before all the world and work to bring the Body of Christ to its fullness as soon as possible. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit – Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgement, Courage, Knowledge, Reverence, and the wonder and awe in the presence of God, give us the spiritual power to become better Christians.
On Wednesday 14 September all the boys will participate in a day of reflection, activity and prayer in preparation for receiving the Sacraments on Thursday 6October. Monsignor Bennet will officiate the Mass with a number of Parish Priests from which the boys belong.
I take this opportunity to ask the whole College Community to pray for these boys who begin and continue their spiritual journeys.
