Father’s Day Mass and Breakfast
On Friday 1 September, our College Community celebrated Father’s Day with our traditional Mass and Breakfast. This year we broke records, having over 220 fathers and sons in attendance! Our mass celebrated the special bond fathers share with their sons, with Father Frank acknowledging Don Bosco’s fatherly love for the boys in his Oratory, looking after their emotional and spiritual needs so as to ensure they became ‘honest citizens and good Christians’. Don Bosco helped the boys in his care and ensured three things; bread, work and heaven. In doing the practical things to take of his boys, he also made certain that his successors understood how they should do this. Don Bosco said to them; “It is not enough that you love the boys; they must know that you love them.” Today’s message was the same to our fathers. The mass ended with a moving clip, acknowledging how much it means to a young person to have their dad present in their lives. You can view this clip on Salesian Live.
The boys then escorted their dads to the Jennings Centre to share breakfast together, and on the way presented them with a blessed lapel pin signifying Christ and Don Bosco. A very special thankyou to our PA and Barb Monaghan, for the lovely breakfast which was enjoyed by all!
It is these special moments that we spend with our children that fill our hearts with love. Fathers understand that they hold their child’s hand for a moment, and their heart for a lifetime.
