Formula One Grand Prix

On Friday 18 March the Year 10 PreCAL and Year 9 Italian students attended the Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park.

As part of their studies, the Year 10 PreCAL students have been involved in a series of science experiments relating to momentum and speed. This has involved the making of model cars and conducting a series of tests to see the effect of adding weight to the vehicle by measuring the distance travelled. In our next practical activity the students then timed the vehicles and measured the distance to calculate the speed of the car after leaving the ramp.

In Year 9 Italian, students have been studying the development of Formula Uno in Italy. The course has focused on the Ferrari and the impact Enzo Ferrari has had on the industry. The students have been learning the vocabulary and grammar to express their knowledge of the fast paced world of the Formula Uno drivers.  After visiting the Albert Park Gran Prix, the students will be presenting a brochure for “il Gran Premio di Melbourne.”

The day was a most enjoyable experience. The boys were able to explore the exhibitions in the Industry & Innovation Precinct and take a wander around the different paddocks. They were also able see some of the classic cars on show along with the sights & sound of V8 Supercars and of course F1’s.
