Who was Fr Bill Edwards?

Bill Edwards was born to parents, Thomas and Lil, in Wollongong (NSW) on 24 February, 1928. Later a brother, Norm and sister Ursula would join this clos-knit and loving family.

Bill spent his entire life from 1945 onwards as a Salesian of Don Bosco.

At the time of his death in June 2010, the then Provincial of the Salesians, Fr Francis Moloney encouraged those whose lives were touched by Fr Bill: “Rejoice in the life of this man whom I would regard as perhaps the Australian Salesian who most closely resembled Don Bosco himself.”

One of the constants across Fr Bill’s whole life as a Salesian was his letter writing. During his many years of generous service he would have emptied hundreds of pens, posted thousands of letters and written hundreds of thousands of words. Fr Bill regarded ‘letter writing’ as an integral and significant part of his priestly work. He turned his hand to it nearly every day. It brought him great joy. It was more like a recreation and never a chore.

I pray that this collection of Fr Bill’s spiritual treasures taken from his voluminous letters and other writings, inspires your faith and transforms your life as they have mine.
