Mother Courage and Her Children
Salesian College 2017 Production
Mother Courage and her Children by Bertolt Brecht is widely considered a masterpiece of 20th Century European Theatre. Since Term One, the cast and band have been working very hard to bring this classic work to life. The cast, band and crew comprises of our own students and also those of Sacred Heart Girls’ College Oakleigh. The poster has been designed by one of our students, Vasili Thompoulos. In addition to this, the original music used in this play has been composed by Billy Drakopoulos of Year 11, with a small contribution by me.
Written in 1939, the play concerns a woman and her three children as they travel across Europe during the 30 Years War of 1618 -1648. The family earn their living by selling goods to both sides of the Catholic/Protestant conflict. Her two strong sons end up enlisting, leaving just her mute daughter, Kattrin, to help run the family business. Along the way they meet various personages who are caught up in the day to day struggle of this war; an Army Cook, a Chaplain, an Armourer, a Spy, assorted soldiers, farmers and peasants.
This year we will be presenting our work in our own theatre: The Father Bill Edwards auditorium. We are offering three performances for staff, students, friends and families to attend. These performances will be held on Friday August 25 at 7pm, and on Saturday August 26 at 2pm and 7pm.
Tickets can be purchased via www.trybooking.com/RFOY and will also be available at the door. Adult tickets are priced at $15, and student tickets at $10. Hopefully you can attend and support these wonderful students as they showcase their theatrical skills.
