Oz Bosco is an annual Salesian Youth Event. It is a weekend of Joy, Fun, Friends, Faith and Festivity, with special guest speakers, workshops, prayer and liturgy, group sessions and a variety of recreational activities. Oz Bosco is open for young people from 15-25 years. This year it was held at St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully on Friday 28 April through to Sunday 30April. It was a great weekend had by all who attended; Declan Crowe, Lachlan McGee, Mohith Vemula and Eamon Perkins. They were involved in meet and greet games and ‘ice breakers’ as they gathered and got to make new friends, as well as catch up with old friends.
On Saturday, the Chadstone crew lead the Morning Prayer and Salesian Good Morning beautifully, which began the day on a great note. They attended workshops on topics ranging from ‘Living in Australia’, ‘Missions’, ‘Reframing your Thinking’ (Mental Health), ‘Getting to Know and Understand Your Core Values’, ‘Game Workshops’, and ‘Knowing Yourself’ (Self-Awareness) to name a few!
There were two keynote speakers, delivering messages on love, family and what it means to be Salesian. Saturday concluded with a traditional Bush Dance which everyone thoroughly enjoyed (even though they thought it might be a bit ‘daggy’!)
Sunday began with an ‘Amazing Race’ on the school grounds. Together in groups our young people then took a leaf and wrote on it something about their background. The individual leaves then became part of the one tree representing family, and being part of the Salesian family, which is the theme of the 2017 Strenna.
The boys also reported that not only were the activities fantastic, but so was the food!
The weekend concluded with a lovely mass celebrated by Fr Greg Chambers.
Oz Bosco is an annual event, so if you didn’t go this year, listen out for more details about 2018 OzBosco early next year!
