Performing Arts News

May has been a busy month for the Performing Arts Department, with major assessment tasks and co-curricular activities all happening. The start of the month has seen:

  • Two separate Year 9 Drama classes perform their Group Assessment for the semester.
  • Short plays created for Primary School audiences; 125 students from Holy Family Primary in Glen Waverley and then 110 students from St Peter’s in Bentleigh were our distinguished guests for these performances which were rapturously received.
  • Early May also saw our annual trip to Generations in Jazz at Mount Gambier occur with 28 musical students representing the College at this prestigious national schools bands event. Parents and staff also had the opportunity to see the bands perform at the Thornbury Theatre in the week prior to the competition. It was a great chance for our students to perform in public prior to the festival and our Stage Band Conductor Mr Daimon Brunton put in a lot of hard work to organise and co-ordinate this whole event. This is a significant commitment for the staff, students and families involved as we departed at 7:30 on Friday morning and returned at 10:30pm on Sunday. A huge thank you to everyone; we could not achieve this without your support.
  • During May we had our Autumn Concert on Wednesday 28 May, where all College Bands performed along with three Year 7 Homerooms and our Year 11 VCE Music class. The concert began at 7:30pm with a gold coin donation as entry fee; all were welcome to come along and experience a great evening. After school on Thursday 29 May saw the turn of our Year 10 Drama class to perform their Group Assessment work.
  • In addition to all these major events our College musical, Hairspray, is still rehearsing after school two nights per week, with the cast becoming more and more confident with all their singing, dancing and acting; sometimes doing all 3 at the same time! The Production will be staged at the Alexander Theatre Monash University on August 8 at 7:30pm and on Saturday August 9 at 3:000pm and again at 7:30pm. Tickets will be able to be purchased directly from the Alexander Theatre Box Office.
