Project Compassion

Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal is traditionally referred to as Project Compassion. It brings thousands of Australians together in solidarity with the world’s poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. It is our Awareness and fundraising focus for Term 1 each and every year, usually raising approximately $5000.

The theme for Project Compassion 2016 is “Learning more, creating change”.

As Pope Francis says “Education is an act of hope”, so this year Project Compassion celebrates the power of learning, and the many ways in which Caritas Australia is working with local partners around the world to provide vital learning and renewed hope to children, women and men most vulnerable to extreme poverty and injustice.

As a way of supporting Project Compassion in its goal of learning more, creating change, the College has already run the Shrove Tuesday activity and Sausage sizzle lunch at the House Swimming Carnival.

The Social justice group will also be running a canteen at the House Athletics day on Tuesday 23 February. Boys will be able to purchase noodles, chips, cookies, popcorn, treats and a variety of drinks. All profits going to project Compassion.
