VCAA Plain English Speaking Award

On Friday June 13, two Year 12 students, Carl Rodricks and Robert D’Leema, took part in the VCAA Plain English Speaking Award. The two College Leaders had been aiming for the regional final held at St Bede’s College since the end of 2013, and were successfully chosen as Salesian College’s senior representatives early this year.

Carl and Robert competed against some of the region’s strongest orators, from schools including St Bede’s, Kilvington Grammar and Haileybury. The full day event was filled with a range of speeches of very high quality. It was impressive to witness the socially conscious exploration of ideas from the speakers and pleasing to see such breadth and complexity of thinking from young adults.

Carl and Robert were wonderful ambassadors for Salesian College and we can be proud of their efforts. The winner was the 2013 State Champion from St. Bede’s College in Mentone. We look forward to Carl’s next competition as part of our internal ‘Mary McKertich Public Speaking Award’.

Congratulations to the boys and to their mentors Ian McKail and Andrew Schillaci.
