Rotary Donation for Camboolies

On Thursday 8 August, Ryan Henderson and Ben McGuinness made a presentation to the Rotary Club of Oakleigh. They spoke of their upcoming trip to Cambodia to build a house for a family. This project benefits not only the family but the local community from where resources and labour are obtained. The boys are paying for their own flights and accommodation which means that all funds raised will go directly to their worthy cause. They had so far raised $8,000 out of a $10,000 target.

The quality of the presentation was excellent and the boys answered a number of questions relating to the finer details of the project. Clearly, the members of Rotary were moved by the occasion and a wonderful gesture was made with a donation of $2,500. This donation ensured that the target of $10,000 was met and even allowed more money for other initiatives to benefit the Cambodian community.

This experience highlights the wonderful work done by the Rotary Club of Oakleigh under the leadership of its president, Peter Norman OAM. Rotary has helped us at other times with such as in the granting of space, without cost, at the Oakleigh Market to sell second hand goods for Project Compassion. Hopefully, there are members of our College community who might be interested in joining the Rotary Club of Oakleigh. If so, Peter can be contacted on 0417 537 440.
