Round Two versus Emmanuel

After a fantastic win last week we were slow to start against Emmanuel, they put on early goals and led by 14 points at quarter time. At quarter time we spoke about the need to apply more defensive pressure on the opposition and use the ball better going forward. A five goal to three second quarter saw us trailing by only one point at half time (7.6.48 to 7.7.49). Micky Lee was presenting as a good target up forward with assistance from Daniel Hayes. The guys in the midfield tightened up on their opponents and the game had turned our way and taking the momentum into the half time break.
In the third quarter Emmanuel found too much space and hurt us on the rebound. All the hard work that was done in the second quarter was undone in a matter of 10 minutes of play. Emmanuel were able to capitalise when we dropped off our intensity and pressure, scoring five goals to none taking a 32 point lead into the three quarter time break with Salesian 7.7.49 to Emmanuel 12.9.81.
The last quarter needed a large effort if we were to give ourselves a chance to win the game and the boys came out firing kicking a couple of early goals. While the effort was much greater than during the third quarter we were unable to sustain it enough to overrun them in the final quarter. We managed to have eight scoring shots in the last term to Emmanuel’s five but we couldn’t manage to kick straight, Emmanuel running out winners 16.10.106 to Salesian 10.11.71.
Best players were Luke Gogis, Tom Corrie, Michael Lee and Jake Walton.
We face a big task this week against CBC St Kilda away needing a win to keep ourselves in with a chance of making the final.
