Salesian Italy Trip – September 2014

Over the September term break a group of Year 9 and 10 Italian students embarked on the Salesian College Italian Study Tour. The students were led by Ms Barcellona and Ms Saya. The group spent time in Rome where they visited the Vatican, the Vatican Museum and various other famous Roman landmarks. The first leg of the trip was finished off with a trip to Pompeii where students learnt about and saw the structure of society during Roman times and the devastation caused by Mt Vesuvius. The third leg of the Journey took the group to Florence, the cultural and artistic heart of Italy. Students learnt about the importance of the Medici family and the flourishing Renaissance period. The next leg of the Journey was close to the heart of all Salesian students. The visit to Turin allowed the students to see many of its famous landmarks and take in the breathtaking view of the Italian Alps. The highlights were visiting Colle and Castelnuovo, the home of Don Bosco. The journey concluded with a stay in Venice where students marvelled at the beauty and uniqueness of the city whilst visiting St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. Throughout the trip the students embraced the Italian culture and noted the various differences in lifestyle. They also eagerly put to practice and worked on improving their Italian skills. A memorable trip!
