On Saturday 26 August Ryan Pearce competed in Snowboard X and after a good start was disqualified on turn 3 along with 7 others out of 87 entrants (his time would have put him in the mid 30′s somewhere).

On Sunday 27 August he competed in Snowboard Giant Downhill Salome. After the first run Ryan was positioned in 12th place out of 87 just outside the top 10.

To be in the top 10 after 2 runs gets you a berth at Nationals at Perisher in NSW; this was a personal best for Ryan. To be up there with all the private schools was incredible for Ryan to experience.

At the start of the second run with no input from myself or Chris (Ryan’s Uncle) he had 2 choices; to make either, take it easy and finish with a good time or go for a top 10 finish. To Ryan’s credit he took the latter and gave it his all to make the top ten. Half way down and well on the pace he caught an edge and spun around. By keeping upright finished in 32nd place, which was remarkable given he finished 64th in this event last year.

To be able to take on the Private schools with all the resources they have, and finish the way he did was such a great effort and a great boost in his confidence and in his own ability to compete.
