Social Justice Report

Caritas is a charitable agency which supports long term development programs in impoverished communities in Africa, Asia, East Timor, Latin America, Indigenous Australia and the Pacific. They help oppressed people to rediscover their dignity by taking greater control over their lives and overcoming poverty. Throughout the course of Term 1 all funds raised by the Social Justice team will be going towards Caritas in order to help fight poverty in less fortunate areas of the world.

At last Friday’s Swimming Carnival, the Social Justice team ran a barbeque where students could pick up sausages, drinks and chips that they had pre-ordered in the days leading up to the carnival. A number of Year 12 students gave their time in order to help the barbeque run as smoothly as possible: Taeylor Collison, Gab Lubin, Michael Ngyuen, Jackson Tate, Josh Wilman, Connor Perkins, Anthony Nalbant, Tapiwanashe Munyanyiwa, Joey Tran, Hamish Patterson and Beau Watson. With their combined effort and the work of Mrs Knight, a grand total of $323.80 was raised which is a fantastic effort considering that this is the first year that the canteen was run in a pre-order platform.
