Valedictory Events – VCE Class of 2014

Wednesday, 22 – Friday 24 October saw a number of significant College events designed to acknowledge and farewell our Year 12 students who are now preparing for their end of year exams.

On Wednesday we held the Valedictory Assembly where all the Year 12 boys processed in to the hall and where significant contributions were acknowledged. We presented awards to the top achiever in each Unit 3/4 subject and of course presented the House Cup to great acclaim.

Our College Captain, Michael Olivetti, delivered his address to the assembled students, staff and parents which was reflective, moving and inspirational. As Michael commented: “It is timely that we reflect on the many great opportunities that have been presented to us at Salesian College. It has been without a doubt a great place for us to develop from young boys to adolescents, learning off the great role models and leaders that have come before us….. Before we enter into the next phase of our journey, we must also acknowledge the teachers who have helped us unwaveringly over the duration of our time here. On many occasions they have gone beyond what is expected with countless extra hours of hard work and dedication over the years that have guided us to where we are today. On behalf of the student body I thank you all for what you have given our cohort, especially all of our year 12 teachers and wish you all of the success in continuing to make Salesian College the special place that it is today.”

On Thursday the boys gathered together for the Valedictory Breakfast which allowed them to share stories of their journey together and view a most amusing montage of anecdotes, reminiscences and jokes.

On Friday evening the boys wore their formal uniform for their final gathering as a cohort when they fittingly celebrated Mass together with families and staff. In a moving celebration of the liturgy the boys sang, prayed and celebrated together and each boy was presented with their graduating certificate and gift from the College Principal, Mr Brennan and the Rector, Fr Papworth. Following Mass we continued the celebration at the Valedictory Dinner which saw the boys in a most joyous and reflective mood. The singing of the College song with great gusto by the boys and the manner in which they gathered together as friends and fellow Salesians was a great tribute to parents, staff and the boys and was a fitting end to their journey together.

We are immensely proud of the members of the graduating ‘Class of 2014’,  who during these last weeks  have ended their school days with so much good will and joy. We wish them every success as they continue their examinations and their future journeys. It is our prayer that their lives will be steeped in faith, love and service, that they indeed will continue to be proud to be called Salesian Men.
